为积极响应闺蜜内部“读书学文化”活动,现贴篇作文课期末作业,以为敲门砖。

The story begins with a thrilling scene, a famous physicist has been murdered, a sign of an ancient brotherhood “Illuminati” was branded on his chest and his left eye was hovered out…

Angels and Demons, one of Dan Brown’s best selling novels before the worldwide popular Da Vinci Code, is an intriguing, suspenseful, and imaginative novel with life-or-death cliff hangers, romance, religion, science, murder, mysticism, architecture, and action mixed up.

In the world’s largest scientific research facility-Switzerland’s European Laboratory for Particle Physics (CERN), p hysicist Leonardo Vetra who is also a Catholic zealot and his adopted daughter Vittoria , a beautiful and mysterious Bio Entanglement Physicist have successfully discovered the way of inventing and preserving the most powerful energy source known to man – antimatter. Antimatter which releases energy with 100 percent efficiency (nuclear fission is 1.5 percent efficient) is identical to physical matter except that it is composed of particles whose electric charges are oppositeto those found in normal matter. The big explosion by the fusion of antimatter and normal matter existed on earth would cause a big bang and be a proof of Creation in Bible, which is discovered by Leonardo and also is the reason why he has been cruelly killed by the ancient secret brotherhood known as the Illuminati, the most powerful underground organization ever to walk the earth constructed by famous scientists, Galileo as the founder, who struggled against but finally were sentenced by Roman Catholic Church. The container with 0.25 gram antimatter which could literally liquidate everything in a half-mile redius has been stolen and hidden under Vatican City on the day of holy conclave-the sacred ceremony in which the 165 cardinals of the world-the most powerful men in Christendom-g athered in Vatican City to elect the new Pope. At the meantime, all the four Pope candidates have been kidnapped and cruelly killed by the “elements of earth, air, fire and water” respectively which are the symbol of Illuminati.

Maximilian Kohler, the director of CERN, turns to a world-renowned Harvard symbologist, a professor of iconography and religious art, Robert Langdon and Vittoria. Embarking on a frantic hunt following the notes of great astronomer Galileo's and the master pieces of great artist Bernini’s through sealed crypts, dangerous catacombs, deserted cathedrals, and even to the heart of the most secretive vault on earth, Langdon and Vetra follow a 400-year old trail of ancient symbols that snakes across Rome toward the long-forgotten Illuminati lair... a secret location that contains the only hope for Vatican salvation. Of course, at the end, heroes win, Vatican has been saved and the man who has done wrong surely will be punished as he deserves but the argument between science and religion will be continuously going on.

The whole story of more than 400 pages was happened within 6 hours, but every minute while reading the book was like you were counting down the seconds of your own watch. The way led by Robert Langdon and Vittoria Vetra to find out the murderer, the reason and the trail of Illuminati and to save Vatican from a timing bomb was not only a trip to Rome, Vatican City through the fantastic architectures, artistics but also a lesson of debate between science and religion which might cause you to think about basic but profound questions of the real truth on earth.

Dan Brown whose novels have been translated and published in more than 40 languages around the world is the author of numerous bestselling novels, including the NO.1 New York Times bestseller. As the son of a Presidential Award winning math professor and of a professional sacred musician, Dan grew up surrounded by the paradoxical philosophies of science and religion. These complementary perspectives served as inspiration for his acclaimed novel Angels & Demons—a science vs. religion thriller set within a Swiss physics lab and Vatican City led by his popular protagonist Robert Langdon. Dan Brown is a genius of telling stories. He makes all the suspense with a clear clue that all the readers could follow easily and eagerly. He is also good at weaving the knowledge of religion, history, art, culture and geography into the fast – paced plots and makes the knowledge as the important elements of the story.

The most appealing ability of Dan is the traceless of making breath taking stories upon the real figures, events, architectures and artworks in history and reality.
CERN, the research facility in Switzerland has succeeded in producing the first particles of antimatter, is true. X-33, the aircraft mentioned in the novel, is based on the model of the one travel at Mach 15 (over 10,000 mph.) made in United States. References to all works of art, tombs, tunnels, and architecture in Rome are entirely factual (as are their exact locations). They can still be seen today. The brotherhood of the Illuminati is also factual. You can hardly tell which part of the novel was created out of the air. As for the title, angels and demons, at the beginning, I have been thinking it referring to the powerful while dangerous antimatter because of its enormous benefit and unimaginable damage to human beings. While reading further, the circumscription became blurred. Closing the book, paradox of science and religion themselves and against each other could be either angels or demons to us humans.

Truth and fiction, science and religion, angels and demons, those are the reasons to open this book.
